NGALI JOURNAL

My Story: Country Road x Ngali x Pearl Austin
0:00 / 0:00

The collaboration with Pearl Austin to create a collection for Country Road was the realisation of everything I had envisioned when I first began Ngali. When the agreements were finally signed, I remember driving home and calling my daughter, saying, “This is why I do what I do.” I was overwhelmed with excitement, not only for what it meant for but for Pearl, her family, her community and for Ngali.

This project came together so beautifully because of the people who saw the vision of possibility. Joanna Byrne, General Manager of APY Art Centre Collective, was instrumental. Despite her full schedule, she worked alongside me to approach Pearl and Brian at the Umoona Art Centre. Joanna has been with us every step of the way, and her participation has been invaluable. Equally, Brian, as the Umoona Art Centre Manager, smoothed the path and ensured Pearl was always supported, with him as a trusted sounding board.

What made this journey truly special was the chance to build a personal connection with Pearl. I know that our bond will continue rooted in cultural respect, creative collaboration, and friendship. For me, this collaboration represents more than a fashion collection. It is a story of two First Nations creatives coming together to create something meaningful, powerful, and lasting.

For me, this journey holds deep significance. It embodies what is possible when we stand side by side, honouring creativity, culture, and community. It speaks to the heart of Ngali’s purpose and the vision that guides us.

And of course it would not have happened without the amazing team at Country Road but that is a separate story, soon to come.
